DriveClub Recomp controller & wheel setup
Gamepads, keyboard keys, button icons, steering wheels with force feedback, pedals, shifters and handbrakes, all from the project’s documentation.
- Any gamepad
- Keyboard + mouse
- Wheels with FFB
- DualSense triggers
DriveClub Recomp reads any gamepad, keyboard and mouse at the same time, and supports steering wheels with force feedback, clutch pedals, H-pattern shifters, USB handbrakes and button boxes. All of it is set up in the launcher; the bindings are saved in data\user\input_config\default.ini.
Gamepads that work
| Controller | What you get |
|---|---|
| Sony DualSense | PS5-style button icons; on a USB cable, adaptive triggers on gear shifts and the rev limiter, and haptics for engine, road and kerbs (since 0.4.1, off until you turn it on). |
| Xbox Wireless Controller | Xbox One or Xbox 360 style icons; impulse triggers driven by the car’s telemetry since v0.4.2. |
| 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless | Works as a standard gamepad; the README names 8BitDo among supported pads. Choose the Xbox or PlayStation prompts that match its labels. |
| GameSir Cyclone 2 | Xbox-layout PC pad; works as a standard gamepad with Xbox prompts. |

Button prompts: PlayStation or Xbox icons
Since 0.4.1 the game’s own button icons follow your controller. In the launcher go to Driving → Controller buttons, or set button_prompts, xbox_buttons and playstation_buttons in driveclub.ini:
- Prompts: Auto (follows the controller in use, key caps on the keyboard), PlayStation or Xbox.
- Xbox buttons: Xbox One (flat A/B/X/Y, View icon) or Xbox 360 (glossy gems, Back pill).
- PlayStation buttons: PS4 (the game’s original symbols) or PS5 (DualSense style).

Steering wheel setup
- Connect the wheel, pedals, shifter and handbrake before starting the game.
- Press Wheel Setup on the launcher’s Driving tab (or run
WheelSetup.exe). Pick the wheel, and the pedals if they have their own USB. Click Map on a row and turn, press or shift; × clears it; Save writesdefault.ini. - Set the rotation in the wheel’s own software (Pit House, G HUB…) and enter the same number in Wheel Setup.
- For an H-pattern shifter choose a manual gearbox, and for a wheel turn on hardcore handling. The Sim preset on Assists and view does both and turns the assists off.
The handbrake row listens on every controller, so a USB handbrake is found by pulling it; past 40% it presses circle, which is the handbrake in a race. Button rows accept any controller’s buttons (a button box is written with its name) or keys with Ctrl, Shift or Alt, so a Stream Deck sending F13–F24 works too. Fanatec bases that appear as two controllers are picked by their HID collection, e.g. wheel_device = FANATEC Wheel @col01.
Force feedback settings
Reworked Physics (recommended) works the force out from the front tyres in the game’s own simulation: heavier as the tyres load up, light when they slide, self-correcting when the rear steps out, with kerbs and road on top. Original Physics (default) plays the forces the PS4 game made for a Logitech wheel, scaled by wheel_ffb_gain and wheel_ffb_vibration (100 = as sent, up to 2000; a few hundred is normal).
| Setting | Range | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Gain | 0–300% | Overall strength; at 100% a hard corner uses about 60% of the wheel’s force |
| Filter | 0–100% | Smooths the force: 0 on direct drive |
| Minimum force | 0–30% | Lifts small forces past the centre dead spot of gear and belt wheels |
| Damper | 0–100% | Weight when turning, strongest standing still |
| Kerbs | 0–200% | Kerb rumble |
| Road | 0–200% | Bumps and road surface |
| Slip | 0–200% | Buzz when tyres slide, spin or lock |
| Soft lock | Game, Off, 540°–1080° | Stops the wheel at the car’s steering lock or a fixed angle |
| Vibration wave | Sine, Square | Square feels sharper on gear and belt wheels |
Direct drive preset (Fanatec DD, Moza, Simagic, Simucube): gain 100, filter 0, minimum force 0, kerbs 50, road 50, slip 30, damper 10. Gear or belt (most Logitech, Thrustmaster, Fanatec CSL): gain 130, filter 10, minimum force 8, kerbs 80, road 80, slip 50, damper 0. The game re-reads default.ini within a second, so FFB Tuner.bat can change forces while you drive. If the wheel feels flat in hard corners, lower the gain: the log reports FFB clipping. FfbTest.exe plays single forces without the game; wheel_ffb = off disables force feedback.
Camera, field of view and comfort
- Field of view (Assists and view): 50–150% of the game’s own for every camera; F5/F6 change it in 5% steps and it is saved in
data\user\camera.ini. - Lock to horizon: Off, Cockpit or All views; keeps the horizon level while the car leans, which helps with motion sickness.
- Camera shake: 0–100% (up to 200% since 0.4.1); also set the game’s own Camera shake to 0 for the calmest view.
Telemetry for dashboards and motion rigs
Since 0.4.1 the game can send telemetry over UDP in the Forza Dash layout (General tab, off by default). An open report says the option has to be turned on again each session on 0.4.1 (#356); 0.4.2 fixed keeping the DualSense and telemetry settings (#335).
Frequently asked questions
What is the best controller for DriveClub Recomp?
Any gamepad works. A DualSense is the closest to the PS4 experience and, on a USB cable, adds adaptive triggers that push back on shifts and the rev limiter plus engine and road haptics. An Xbox Wireless Controller gets impulse triggers driven by the car since v0.4.2. The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless and GameSir Cyclone 2 work as standard pads.
Do DualSense adaptive triggers work?
Yes, since 0.4.1, with the controller connected by USB cable and the DualSense option turned on (General tab). 0.4.2 fixed the triggers continuing after a race and made the setting stick between launches.
How do I set up a steering wheel?
Connect wheel, pedals, shifter and handbrake before starting, press Wheel Setup (or run WheelSetup.exe), map each control by moving it, set the same rotation as in the wheel’s own software, and choose the Direct drive or Gear or belt preset. For the shifter use a manual gearbox, and turn on hardcore handling; the Sim preset does both.
Which wheels have been tested?
The README lists a Moza R3, a Fanatec 8 Nm direct drive base with ClubSport Pedals and a Fanatec handbrake plugged into the pedals, and a Logitech Driving Force Shifter. Any wheel Windows lists as a game controller works; the game sees it as a PS4 wheel.
How do I change the button icons to Xbox or PS5?
In the launcher, Driving → Controller buttons: Prompts Auto, PlayStation or Xbox; Xbox buttons Xbox One or Xbox 360 style; PlayStation buttons PS4 or PS5. Auto follows the controller in use and shows key caps on the keyboard.
Can I use keyboard and controller together?
Yes. Keyboard, mouse and gamepad can be used at the same time. The bindings are in data\user\input_config\default.ini.
