How it works

A native port, not an emulator window

The PS4 runs on an x86-64 processor, the same family as a PC. DriveClub Recomp takes advantage of that: the game’s own code runs directly on your CPU, and the project supplies everything around it.

  1. The launcher reads your 1.28 update folder and base game folder, checks the version and every game*.dat archive, and prepares the game image (your files are not changed).
  2. The PS4 system libraries the game calls (files, saves, input, audio, networking, trophies) are reimplemented in the runtime.
  3. The game’s GPU command buffers and shaders are translated to Vulkan, much as DXVK translates Direct3D. The first minutes of play build a shader cache, so expect short stutters at first.

Since it started on October 16, 2026, the project has shipped 14 releases, gathered 966 stars and been downloaded 73,213 times on GitHub (November 8, 2026). It is licensed GPL-2.0-or-later; the credits list the community patches by Kravickas, TonySSS, ZipperedRain, kalaposfos, squidbus, illusion and u/Charlie_Muggins.

What you bring

Your own 1.28 dump and a Vulkan 1.3 PC

Operating systemWindows 10 or 11, 64-bit. Linux x86_64 through the AppImage (experimental since 0.4.1).
Processorx86-64 with AVX, BMI1, LZCNT and MOVBE: Intel Haswell (2013) or newer, AMD Excavator or any Ryzen. The launcher checks this and names what is missing.
GraphicsAny card with a Vulkan 1.3 driver: NVIDIA, AMD or Intel. There is no DirectX 12 renderer; all GPU work goes through Vulkan.
Video memoryNo fixed minimum. Since 0.2.5 and 0.3.0, buffers and images move to system memory when a 4–6 GB card is full instead of closing the game; 4K output can still run out on 8 GB cards.
Disk spaceAbout 40 GB for your game dumps, plus about 170 MB for the extracted release and a shader cache that grows as you play.
RuntimeThe new launcher needs the free .NET 8 Desktop Runtime (it offers to install it); the classic launcher needs nothing.
GameYour own DriveClub dump at version 1.28: CUSA00093 (US, the tested one) or CUSA00003 (Europe, accepted, played less).

This site does not explain how to obtain game files. Use a dump of a copy you legally own; the release contains no game data.

Latest changes

What’s new in v0.4.2

  • Modkit in the download. dcmod.exe sits next to DriveClub.exe, with a modkit folder (docs, examples, a Blender add-on) and a Mods page in the launcher: tables, cars, tracks, textures, shaders, sound, Lua scripts and HDR graphics filters. Mods are patches applied to your own game data, so they contain none of it.
  • Reduce texture repetition (Scene detail): hides the repeating rows in large road, terrain and wall textures; on by default for High and Ultra, about 6% fewer FPS at 4K with DLSS Performance (#283).
  • Xbox impulse triggers driven by the car’s telemetry (#336), and an opt-in environment timelapse in Patches (#338, #344).
  • Linux launcher parity, including the DLC unlock that was missing on Linux (#339, reported in #351).
  • Fixed: shimmering cars with DLSS (cars get their own motion vectors again, #361); black-and-white flicker on cars after switching cameras at native 4K (#362, reported in #347); missing Chinese and other characters (#360); freeze at start with “Show pedal inputs” on (#333, #346); picture shake and white lines with the upscalers (#355); skip-intro, DualSense and telemetry settings not kept (#335).
  • Known: FSR 4.1 ghosting on some Radeon cards (#340, #348): try fsr4_invert_jitter=1 and fsr4_auto_exposure=0 in data\user\driveclub.ini.

Before that: 0.4.1 (November 2, 2026) added FSR 4/4.1, Reflex, Anti-Lag 2, DualSense adaptive triggers, UDP telemetry and the first Linux build; 0.4.0 (October 30, 2026) added private multiplayer, trophies, save profiles and a new launcher, and was about 11% faster. Full changelog →

Setup

Install in four steps

  1. Download driveclub-recomp-0.4.2-win64.zip and check its SHA-256 with the checker above.
  2. Extract it anywhere you can write to, for example D:\Games\DriveClubRecomp, not Program Files.
  3. Open DriveClub.exe. Press Browse beside each folder: the 1.28 update folder (contains eboot.bin) and the base game folder (contains game000.dat).
  4. Choose a performance preset, check the settings and press Play. Expect a few minutes of shader stutter the first time.

SmartScreen may warn about the unsigned launcher: More info, then Run anyway, after the checksum matches. The full install guide covers folder layout, launch options, updating and Linux.

Compatibility

What runs well today

The README lists the game as playable from the menus through races, photo mode and saves, with trophies and private multiplayer. About 60 FPS at 4K in the heaviest scenes on the test PC (RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 7 5800X3D), higher in lighter ones. The processor is the usual limit: scenes with many cars, trees and rain drop frames first on slower CPUs.

HardwareStatusNotes
NVIDIA GeForceMost testedThe developers’ test card is an RTX 5070 Ti. DLSS, DLAA, Reflex and neural rendering need RTX. Open in early November: an FPS drop with DLSS on 0.4.2 (#374) and highlight/headlight issues with DLAA (#357).
AMD RadeonPlayable, more reportsMany “device lost” and white-square fixes landed in 0.2.4–0.3.1, rain on the windshield returned in 0.3.2 (verified on an RX 7900 XTX). FSR 4 needs RX 6000 or newer; FSR 4.1 ghosting is a known issue (#348).
Intel Arc / iGPUWorks, less testedSupported through Vulkan; FSR 4 (INT8) runs on Arc. Players still report colour glitches or device-lost crashes in some cases.
Linux (AppImage)ExperimentalNative build since 0.4.1, with launcher parity in 0.4.2. Data goes to data/ beside the AppImage.
Handheld PCsNot confirmedA Handheld preset exists, but the project has not published a Steam Deck test, and an ROG Ally crash at Play is open (#359).

Known in the README: some reflections are too bright (rain drops on the side window, car paint on the stage select screen); fast cars can leave a faint trail with anti-aliasing; above 120 FPS the game’s movement timing breaks. More on the troubleshooting page.

Frequently asked questions

What is DriveClub Recomp?

DriveClub Recomp (OverkillLabs3/driveclub-recomp) is an open-source project that runs DriveClub for PS4, version 1.28, natively on Windows and Linux. The game’s own x86-64 code runs directly on your processor with no CPU emulation, the PS4 system libraries are reimplemented, and the graphics commands are translated to Vulkan, “similar to Wine and DXVK”. The latest release is v0.4.2, published November 8, 2026.

Is DriveClub Recomp an emulator?

Not in the usual sense. The PS4 has an x86-64 processor, so the game’s code can run on a PC processor as it is; nothing interprets it instruction by instruction. What the port supplies is everything around that code: the PS4 system libraries, a Vulkan translation of the GPU commands, and a launcher that prepares your dump. A general PS4 emulator such as shadPS4 takes a similar route for many games at once; see DriveClub Recomp vs shadPS4.

Where do I download DriveClub Recomp?

Only from the project’s GitHub Releases page, github.com/OverkillLabs3/driveclub-recomp/releases. The current Windows file is driveclub-recomp-0.4.2-win64.zip (169.3 MB, SHA-256 ef131a47a322e10a…). The buttons on this site link to those exact files; nothing is mirrored here.

Does the download include the game?

No. The release contains the launcher, the runtime and tools only. You need your own dump of DriveClub: the version 1.28 update folder (with eboot.bin) and the base game folder (with game000.dat). The launcher never modifies or copies them. This site does not explain how to obtain game files.

Which version of DriveClub does it need?

Version 1.28. The US release CUSA00093 is the one the developers test; the European CUSA00003 at 1.28 has been accepted since 0.2.3 and played less. Other versions and repacked dumps are untested. A dump that is already 1.28 in a single folder can be chosen as the base folder with the update field left empty.

Can my PC run DriveClub Recomp?

You need Windows 10/11 64-bit (or Linux for the AppImage), a processor with AVX, BMI1, LZCNT and MOVBE (Intel Haswell 2013 or newer, AMD Excavator or Ryzen), a graphics card with a Vulkan 1.3 driver and about 40 GB for the game dumps. The project’s test PC (RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 7 5800X3D) holds about 60 FPS at 4K in the heaviest scenes. Details on the requirements page.

Does online multiplayer work?

Private sessions do, since 0.4.0: one player chooses Host a session, the others Join with the host’s IP address, over a home network or a VPN, all on the same version. Trophies, clubs, lobbies and statistics work through the server included in the ZIP. There are no public servers yet; a public lobby is being tested on the project’s Discord.

Is there a macOS, Android or Steam Deck version?

There is no macOS or Android build. Linux has an experimental native AppImage; the project has not published a Steam Deck test, though the launcher has a Handheld preset and the Windows ZIP runs under Proton. Any APK or DMG using the DriveClub Recomp name did not come from this project.
